An Izakaya is a Japanese-style pub, that serves alcoholic beverages and food to go with the alcohol.
Izakaya generally serve mainly beer, sake, shochu (Japanese distilled spirit), and in recent years, highballs (whisky and soda).
In addition, each izakaya has various concepts. Specifically, izakaya can be divided into different food categories, such as meat and seafood, or specialize in a particular region or prefecture, such as Tohoku, Kyushu, Hokkaido, or Okinawa.
Some restaurants offer a wide variety of dishes such as sushi, yakitori, and okonomiyaki, allowing customers to choose the restaurant that best suits their tastes.

One of the unique culture of izakaya is “otsoshi”.
Otsoshi” is a kind of “seat charge” or “appetizer” and refers to a small dish served after the first order.
The “otoshi” also has a role to link between the food ordered and the food served.
