Hottarakashi Onsen is a popular open air onesen (hot spring) located in Yamanashi City, Yamanashi Prefecture, with a spectacular view of the Kofu Basin and Mount Fuji.

Hottarakashi Onsen is located at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level, and the most popular times to visit are sunrise, night view and starry sky hours.
The night view from “Fuefukigawa Fruit Park” on the way to Hottarakashi Onsen is one of the new three major night views in Japan.

Hottarakashi Onsen has two bathhouses, “Kocchi no yu” and “Acchi no yu” (each with a separate fee), each with the following features.

  1. Kocchi no yu: You can see Mount Fuji in front. This was the first bathhouse built at Hottarakashi Onsen, and has a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
  2. Acchi no yu: Mount Fuji can be seen to the right direction. The bathhouse is twice as large as “Kocchi no yu” and offers a more open view. Also, if you want to enjoy the sunrise and night view while bathing in the hot spring, choose “Acchi no yu”.

Hottarakashi Onsen has two eating places that serve Soba, Japanese Curry, and other meals and snacks, and its specialty is “Ontama age”, a deep-fried soft boiled egg.

Access to Hottarakashi Onsen

By public transportation, take the Yamanashi City Bus from Yamanashishi Station, where the Chuo Main Line and Limited Express Kaiji stop, to the Fruits Center bus stop, which is the nearest bus stop. And it takes about 25 minute walk up the hill.
Also note that there are only three buses a day between Yamanishishi Station and the Fruits Center bus stop.
Departure from Yamanashishi Station bus stop is 10:30, 13:40, 16:45. Departure from Fruits Center bus stop is 10:40, 13:50, 17:00.

If you walk, it takes about 70 minutes (about 4.6 km (2.86 miles)) or more one way from the Yamanishishi Station.

Model area of Yuru Camp△ (Laid-Back Camp)

Hottarakashi Onsen has been featured as a model area in the popular Japanese camping manga and anime “Yuru Camp△ (Laid-Back Camp)”.
Note: Hottarakashi Onsen appears in episode 4 of the anime.
